Gearing up for the debut of our upcoming Minnie Riperton tribute concert on July 12th, 2014 at Grand Performances in Los Angeles entitled “Adventures From Paradise,” we have decided to offer up a video for the new single which will be featured on the full length album we have set to release this summer, bearing the same title.
Decoding an already re-arranged classic by Rotary Connection, “Respect” – originally written by Otis Redding and later recorded by both him and Aretha Franklin – features the lovely and talented Oakland based chanteuse Mara Hruby and the illustrious soul vocalist extraordinaire Van Hunt, mirroring the magic created on the Rotary version by both Minnie Riperton and Sydney Barnes respectively.
The resulting video for the song gives an intimate look into our recording process and how the extended family of LA musicians we bring together lend their talents to make these tracks so special, including the great Strings Massive duo Thomas Lea (viola, violin) and Claire Courchene (cello), Tracy Wannomae (tenor and alto sax), Blake Colie (drums) and Patrick Bailey (lead guitar).
The film was shot, edited and directed by Jaron Halmy, with some additional filming by Vanessa Crocini.
